'gone fishing!'

now that's the sign you get if you ever try to head to charlie's corner on a monday...and also a huge clue to the chilled laid back vibe the place and crew exude at this corner part street cafe, part pub joint! the place definitely brings back memories from way back when pak law would bring the whole family up to changi village and my sis and i would literally go wild for their awesome fish and chips and fresh fruit juices served up in frozen mugs with the signature slab of ice at the bottom of each mug!

having been back there of late, it's good to know that the great things i associate with charlie's corner still remain. happy to also update that they have definitely a couple more good things to remember them by! first....the alcohol. okay...i guess being under the legal age of drinking back then, i would not have cared too much about the drink selection, but a couple of years on, i have to say, charlie's corner does have quite a mean selection of beers and ciders. think pear and peach ciders in addition to the classic apple versions and varieties from australia and sweden....this was like cider heaven! if not for the pending ride back (the bunch of us rode our fixies up to changi from simei) i think i could easily have polished off another bottle of the sweet fizzy nectar!

the food remained as good as i remembered. i went with the recommended chilli dog, although i was tempted to relive my childhood with the fish & chips...but it was all good as the hearty chilli (infused with lots of fresh onions!) really hit the spot for me that evening. g thoroughly enjoyed his porterhouse steak (which was huge by the way!) while the rest of the gang indulged in the fish & chips and chicken chop. we left the place happy and satisfied, and definitely all fueled up for the ride back.

i'll definitely be back soon for more good food and great cider...and of course, the fixie gang in tow!
