the adventure to fika started off post gym two sundays back with g inspired by the write up in the sunday times showcasing the new and noteworthy places in the arab street area. with ikea as this girl's only swedish cuisine reference (ikea rocks by the way!), i was keen to explore new territories and excited by the new discovery!
i guess no swedish meal is complete without a serving of köttbullar. fika served up a nice homemade version with eight ground beefballs, served with yummy creamy gravy, boiled potatoes, and a dollop of lingonberry jam. i was actually torn between the classic meatball dish and the sandwich version, and while i am quite sure the sandwich version would be good, i was satisfied with the köttbullar, cream, jam, potatoes and all. g had the steak and hash and it turned out a little different from what we both expected. the potatoes weren't stripped but were cubed instead and fried with similarly cubed pieces of beef. tossed with ultra sweet caramelized onions and a sunny side up, i would say this dish gets the worth a try from me if you aren't in the meatball-y mood. having said that of course, fika's menu did include all-day brekkies and some yummy sounding sandwiches and desserts so i would recommend going with you gut (literally!) when you order cause i think fika would serve out a pretty good rendition of any thing on the menu. if in doubt, do check with the staff there who are really warm and friendly and will definitely give you some of their personal recommendations!
ps: i just have to say that g and i were fika's first NETS customers *grin*
