to be honest, the simpang bedok area is really the last place i would imagine finding a thai restaurant....much less a good one, especially after being spoilt with the likes of the thai noodle house! i think i must have subconsciously developed a criteria for thai food in singapore - number 1. it must serve a good pad thai. al dente rice noodles, fresh seafood, crunchy veggies, chopped nuts, chilli flakes, huge wedge of lime and the table must have on standby already, fish sauce and sugar. number 2. it must know, even better serve, rad na. number 3. a kickass tom yam soup. thai table passed criteria 1 with flying colors (hence the dish gets to be the lead pic for the post!) and went on to surprise by fulfilling criterion 2 and 3!
rad na was on the menu and this is really the first time i see it on the menu at any thai restaurant. i think g would have ordered it if not for the temptation of the other dishes...so i suspect we'd be back soon to have a taste. the tom yum was authentically done - think warm fiery feeling in the tummy, burning lips but still the urge to have more, and i would highly recommend the brinjal with basil. extremely tasty with the refreshing flavors of fresh basil, i would be quite content just having this with rice! the grilled pork was decent with a really nice dipping sauce and i think we went overboard with the chilli crab. it was the only let down and while it was part of $1 promotion, i would highly recommend just sticking to the authentic thai stuff.
dinner truly turned out to be quite a nice thai surprise....now at least there's a decent thai place in the east!

Recently, a number of "authentic" thai food stalls have opened at Maxwell Market and Amoy Food Centre. I have only managed to try two so far, but I say "authentic" because they all seem to be run by Thai and the herbs they use smell authentic too. Go and try if you have a chance and tell me which one is really authentic ok? =)
definitely jo...thanks for the heads up! i'll try to find an excuse to head over there soon!
