brunch at district ten

been kinda caught up with things over the past couple of weeks, and thought it's high time i took a couple of steps back, regroup and refocus on things that i love doing (mojitos being one of them!). and it being a sunday today, i figured it'd be nice to share with all a somewhat recently discovered brunch place - the district 10 bistro.

occupying the old monk's hill secondary school premise, the laid back, retro, homely vibe of the place immediately stands out. the place is considerably big, with an outdoor dining veranda and large indoor seating. outfitted with loungy sofas, high tables or the regular dining tables, district 10 had a table option to suit any mood you had for the day.

the brunch menu was pretty extensive with almost every brunch variety you can imagine. from the full breakfast works to freshly baked pastries and pancakes, there would definitely be something to satisfy that brunch craving. i was craving poached eggs and english muffins that morning so decided on the eggs florentine instead of the eggs benedict, thinking the spinach would do me more good than the ham! covered with quite a well done mornay sauce, the florentine was on the whole not bad. the eggs could have been a touch more runny in my book but overall, the creamy mornay sauce made up for the lack of runny-nest of the eggs and pretty much still hit the spot for me.

g indulged in the full works, which was very aptly coined the 'district ten greasy spoon'. think two eggs done to your requested style, bangers, hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms and a grilled tomato. it really wasn't as greasy as you would imagine, but definitely one hearty brekkie to kick start your day!

with breakfast already in their tummies, my sis and kids decided on the more lunch-y options on the menu with the kids getting all messy with the classic cabonara and iced chocolate, and my sis trying out the asian seafood salad. again, both were pretty good, although the kids would agree that chef wilin at wild rocket served up a way meaner cabonara...they were content with their al dente pasta. the seafood salad had a nice asian touch with vermicilli noodles, lychees and a fresh chilli dressing....pretty refreshing and worth a shot if one was not in the mood for the heavier brunch or pasta options.

all in all, district 10 turned out to be a nice experience. very family friendly with decent food and helpful service staff...worth a shot if you were in the area and wanted a little refuge from the hustle and bustle of town a few blocks down!
