back in bangkok - the food edition!

i know...bangkok again? yes...this girl ran away from reality for another 6 day bash in the asian city of angels, and while you might be wondering if there is anything left else to see, eat or do in bangkok after my triple post two months ago, i am happy to say that this post will be a picture filled one with more places to eat (see next post for places to relax!) so...sit back and let mojitos take you on a small gastronomic journey (even if it is for five minutes!) back to the land of smiles.

1. mont

we've been to mont before and revisited this quaint little thai ya-kun version cafe. the steam bread and freshly made coconut custards are the attraction here...very old school, and busy with students and locals alike, mont's quite perfect to enjoy a breakfast, brunch or tea!

2. penang shark's fin shop

there are three such sharks' fin joints in siam square and now that we've been to the penang one, i'm proud to declare that we've tried them all! the verdict is that they are all equally good, and price-wise all more or less competitive. penang had pictures of amy yip and andy lau lining up their old school staircase so i'll let you guys figure out the better of the trio!

3. gen pu kan

we discovered this gem actually through a free thai magazine we got at centralworld. think aburiya style cuisine, fantastic cuts of meat, nice variety of korean small dishes, all captured within a slightly smoky japanese/korean joint. the place had a cool old school japanese vibe, between the sizzling sounds of the meat on the barbeque to the loud chatter of the japanese expatriates, the experience at gen pu kan is one not too be missed. sure you might smell of barbecue after but the food is pretty good and definitely worth a try!

4. giusto

it was our last dinner in bangkok so we decided to treat ourselves and followed one of chubby hubby's recommendations. we landed ourselves a few sois away from the dream hotel at resturant giusto. touted as one of the three top italian restaurants in bangkok, giusto did not disappoint. from the awesome selection of breads, complimentary bruschetta, to the creamy lobster bisque, crab angelhair pasta and lamb shank, giusto turned out to be an authentic italian outfit serving some classic italian cuisine. slight pricey as forewarned by chubby hubby but for the quality and experience, this wasn't too high end compared to similar dining in singapore.

5. house of beers

affectionately known as hobs... a now must go place everytime we are in bangkok just to enjoy some awesome food, good beers and great company. the tom yam fettucine is my new found favourite as is the new beer on tap...the cherry bellevue! shout out to chris who runs the place and for taking fantastic care of us!

6. food courts!

no trip to bangkok will be complete without eating at the food courts. mbk remains our must-stop and we discovered that the platinum fashion mall food court was pretty kick-ass too. not to mention the bonus of five floors of shopping below it!
