having spent last evening as a guest to sunset bay's second anniversary at their new locale at east coast, this girl thought she'd better punch out a post before she gets overwhelmed again! (okay, i admit...more lazy then overwhelmed!) anyway, g and i had actually checked out sunset bay two weeks or so back, after hearing much about if from friends. opened by the same folks that started what i would say the first beach bar in sentosa way back when, they really did a good job in bringing back the chilled, laid back vibe of the beach cafe and even better yet, just a stone's throw away from where i stay!
i'm not sure what it is, maybe its the sea breeze or the friendly crew, but stepping into sunset bay would immediately make one almost feel like you were on holiday! to top it all off, sunset bay serves up some mean eurasian cuisine, perfect to go with a pint or two of ice cold san miguels. i would highly recommend the calamari to start off the meal. unlike other places, the calamari at sunset bay is breadcrumbed instead of battered, making the appetizer somewhat less oily, letting the sweetness of the fresh squid really come through. the mains we had pretty much hit the spot for the both of us as well. i was craving pasta so i indulged in a serving of seafood spaghetti, while g had a bowlful of beef smores (stewed beef with root vegetables and freshly baked pita bread). the pasta was done al dente and tossed in a freshly made tomato base and fresh crayfish and seafood. the beef was stewed till tender (yes, the fall off the bone type!) with yummy veggies and awesome gravy to drench the pitas in.
sunset bay has most definitely stayed true to its beach cafe roots....definitely a place to head to to wind down after a long day and kick back with some great food!
ps: if you ride a bicycle, do head down on tuesday nights to enjoy some great discounts!
