as you can tell, this girl is still desperately trying to play catch up! its almost near the end of january 2008 and it is only now that i can sit down and rave about the last meal of 2007 at restaurant one six b. all good i suppose, thank god to digital memories (and god given good memory!) that help me to capture the awesome goodness of the many meals that the regulars of one six b have had.
it was quite a simple affair...in part i guess because it was after all the holiday season and hence the season of eating, so pak law kept dinner simple with a pretty good cut of beef. sous chef ben whipped up a nice pesto potato side and mum, as usual did a refreshing pinenut salad drizzled with a homemade balsimic and sesame dressing. i guess pak law was slightly eager that evening and left the meat in the barbeque slightly longer then necessary, resulting in cuts that were more medium well as opposed to the medium rare that the regulars prefer. still good though, as the meat was still rich with natural juices and had a hint of marbling.
but i guess the highlight of that evening, at least for me, would be the awesome tartin pair that auntie ta made. think fresh nectarines and pears glazed to perfection, covering a light puff pastry base. the sweetness of the nectarines and the pears gave the dessert flavors like none other and the light pastry base just melted in the mouth...yet another truly simple dessert which immediately stole the hearts of the regulars at one six b at first bite. yum! here's to more good meals in 2008!
