resturant one six b is truly on a roll..and this girl would really like to think it is because of the birth of mojitos and madness! so much has been happening that i am officially two posts behind time (*blush*) so playing a bit of catch up here with this post dedicated to the very memorable meal the weekend before last.
pak law already rounded up his regulars and confirmed attendance that wednesday before the weekend...just so that he could invest in the huge can of duck sitting in culinas and try his hand at making duck confit. while the mains were confirmed, the appetizer was only decided that morning with the discovery that figs were in season. i am very sure that one look at that picture would get many wondering if the shot was taken off some gourmet website or magazine....nope! what you see is the simple yet exquisite fig with ricotta cheese appie that sous chef ben prepared. the combination was fantastic...creamy and sweet to taste, all the refreshing flavours were further augmented by the yummy bubbly brought by auntie ta. definitely a new entry to the repetoire of one six b and one to stay!
the duck confit was exceptional! cooked just before serving, pak law timed the entry of his mains perfectly. crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, this is the first time i've had duck confit as is. no gravy, no sauce...nothing to adulterate the rich flavours of the duck. it may be pak law's first go with duck done this way...but going by the nods of approval around the table, he will most definitely be experimenting with it much more!
with the high standard of the meal that evening, pak law couldn't resist taking a poke at auntie ta...saying that her dessert probably won't be of as a high a standard....but that's pak law's impression *grin* this girl, despite the fact that she was actually quite stuffed, managed to polish off two servings of auntie ta's strawberry puree with meringue bits. granted it does look a little ordinary...but one mouthful of this dessert would make you shout extraordinary! made of fresh sweet strawberries, auntie ta's dessert really hit the spot with the refreshing sweetness and surprising crunchy bits of meringue sprinkled throughout the puree. in my book? the dessert definitely met the standard of that evening's meal!

Impressive blog! To a Singaporean stuck overseas like me, reading your blog has made me miss home even more. I think the food looks really interesting. Could you please elaborate on whereabout is one six b? I'd love to try it when I am back home for holidays. Cheers, K
hi kang yong
thanks for the comment. really made me day today! nice to know that you like what you read....don't really mean to burst the bubble but restaurant one six b isn't an actual restaurant. its just a term i coined to feature the wonderful cooking and food i get to enjoy thanks to my dad, brother in law and aunt. i'll let them know though and they will really be pleased!
