one six b

restaurant one six b. this is probably the one place that i have had the most meals at. it continues to be my personal favorite just because the meal always pleases and there is almost always yummy desserts *grin*

dinner is only by invite and the menu constantly changes, according to the mood of the chef. who is the chef? resident chef, pak law. yup! my dad - the chef. let me rephrase that, my dad - my favorite chef. i literally grew up being spoilt by my dad's cooking. coming from a peranakan descent, my dad has managed to pick up some quite awesome cooking skills from my grandma. over the years, he has definitely honed his skills and of late, quite almost perfected the art of the barbecue and grill.

beef. the number one choice of meat if the regulars at one six b could decide on what was on the menu. pak law always makes an effort to get a good cut of the meat, with just the right amount of marbling. he seasons the beef with old school spices, all from first principles, and barbecues them to perfection, medium for most, well done for some. every piece crisp on the outside but tender on the inside, infused with the rich flavours of the meat. the piccies above are probably the first of many of the veal (read baby cow) we had two saturdays ago with a huge platter of grilled veggies, drizzled with balsamic vinegar on the side. dessert was yummy cheese brought back by sous chef ben. tres bein!

lamb. another crowd favourite. pak law was experimenting with a new butcher last saturday and his verdict was the meat wasn't fantastic. i still thought it was quite good and my take is that my dad still managed to time the meat just right in the grill such that the meat was still tender. his next experiment was the ribeye pork with stewed apples and pears which he made for my mom because she wasn't a lamb person. the pork was outstanding. tender slices of ribeye, coupled with the slices of sweet fruit, simmered in butter. again, consensus around the dinner table? outstanding!

to complete the meal last weekend, auntie ta the resident dessert chef, made her awesome panna cotta. smooth italian pudding topped with the sweetest variety of berries and raspberry coulis, the dessert not only looks yummy, it tastes fantastic! the best panna cotta i've ever had!

this post marks yet another first of many to come. although we've moved to bedok, it will still be known as restaurant one six b to me *grin*

here's to pak law, my dad, the chef.
happy daddy's day!
