of pork, potatoes & pavlova

pak law must have been really pleased with the inaugural post i did on restaurant one six b that the regulars of the restaurant were treated to yet another outstanding meal this sunday evening. having already been told that auntie ta was going to make her awesome pavlova, i made a mental note to save lots of space for dinner that evening!

g & i got back from a day at cable slightly burnt, and very hungry. the moment we opened the door, we were greeted with the pleasant smells of roasting meat and simmering fruit. the table was already laid out and we were more then ready to dig in.

i do have to give it to pak law, he has managed to refine the pork, infused with apple & pear to perfection after just one try at the dish. what's more, his keen eye at the butcher spotted a cut of pork, stuffed with blue cheese. so we had two types of pork, prepared the same way but i have to admit, as much as i'm not a big fan of blue cheese, it truly had a synergistic effect on the meat, bringing out the tenderness and amplifying the sweetness of the stewed apples and pear. on the side, we had simple grilled sweet potatoes and carrots, and my mum's yummy salad topped with fried shallots and a tinge of salted fish. to top it all off, the wine of choice (by wine connoisseur ben *grin*) matched the meat and dinner perfectly.

after the outstanding dinner, we all were waiting with bated breath for dessert. i have to admit, auntie ta's pavlova is the best i have had and she always experiments with new variations so much so that all the times we have had the dessert, it has always been different. this time around, it was mango and blueberries with cream cheese. although the cream shifted a little during transit, it was still awesome! the meringues were crisp and light, brown just right and topped with fresh mangoes and huge blueberries. i was a little afraid that the cream cheese would be a bit too much, but the moment i took one bite, i was reaching out for more of the cream! it truly complemented the sweetness of the fruit and added a nice full flavour to this awesome dessert. my nephew and i each managed to have seconds *grin* and my guess is that if there was more, everyone would be more than happy to have a second helping!

a perfect end to a sunday. dia's already looking forward to the next time pak law hits the kitchen!
