finally found the missing piccie for auntie ta's rendition of the pierre herme's dark chocolate tart. i do have to admit the pics in this post aren't fantastic but i do hope they do make your mouths salivate, tummy rumble and instill the craving for something sweet, for these truly decadent creations are all homemade and handcrafted by one six b's very own dessert chef auntie ta.
the key lime pie. i've honestly always had a thing for lime and lemon in dessert but never really got round to actually whipping something up. auntie ta's rendition was a perfect refreshing conclusion to our somewhat heavy sunday brunch (post akan datang!) and was made with very simple ingredients - graham cookies & butter for the crust, lemon curd and topped with freshly whipped cream. it definitely got me thinking lime or lemon ice cream so a lemon gelato might just be the next ice cream flavor to add to my repertoire!
the granita. auntie ta's made granitas before and i do have to admit that her granitas are all truly out of this world. from the simple raspberry and mango granitas she made for reunion dinnner this year, to this fantastic champagne beling-beling (above) and palm & watermelon granita (below), it clearly shows that auntie ta can make almost anything into a yummy, refreshing, give me more granita! i actually meant to get a picture of the beling-beling fruit just so that you get a sense of what it is, but essentially, this is one fruit that i would not fanthom making a dessert out of....we use it to make the classic nonya dish yes, but into a granita, this i must say is the first. it turned out delicious! maybe its the champagne that's in it but the slight tart flavor of the beling beling does come through fabulously!
the watermelon version is yet another simple yet delicious creation. not only does it have fantastic colors, the dessert had a whole host of flavors and textures, from the icy sweet granita to the slightly crunchy sea palm slices and dollop of fresh cream...i say bring the granitas on!
finally, to end take 6 of death by desserts, i humbly introduce to you my very own salted caramel ice cream. some of you do know that i've been messing about in the kitchen and whipping up quite a bit of ice cream. good news is i think i have discovered some winners in my creations and this is by far, based on the tasters response, the best one yet. *grin* i'm pleased and have since set up a sister blog over with tumblr, with snippets of all my frozen obsessions!
enjoy and i promise to be back soon with part seven!
