hawker rocker 110

its been what...a good eight months since mojitos saw the last hawker rocker edition and part of this girl's somewhat new year's resolution (as i clean up my folders and migrate to my new macbook *grin*) is to try to catch up and stay on track with posting on this blog. i know i know...i've said it a gazillion times already but this time, i am gonna try to stick to her plan! so kicking things off will be the long overdue hawker rocker 110 - featuring the whampoa hawker centre.

judging by the queues littering about various corners of the hawker centre, whampoa is probably like the lagoon of the north with the congregation of several all time favorites under one roof.  i do have to confess that i have not quite yet ventured to try the other stalls just because both g and i just head there for our rojak fix, as the balesteir road hoover rojak stall serves up rojak quite unlike any other...in addition to the usual pineapple chunks, you char kway, turnip and cucumber slices, the hoover version throws in slivers of jellyfish and bits of mango which truly adds a nice crunch and tanginess to the freshly ground prawn paste. topped with a generous rain shower of roasted peanuts, the entire mixture just hits the right sweet, salty, tangy and crunchy notes all at once. it is most definitely worth the queue and you might wanna consider 'up sizing' your order just so that you have more of the yummy goodness to enjoy!

for those who still have room after the rojak course, my genie gourmet's soon kways and koo chai kways would be my recommendation for dessert. steamed on the spot, these little morsels are made with smooth, almost melt in your mouth rice flour skins, encasing generous portions of fresh chives or bamboo shoots. sprinkled with roasted sesame and accompanied with a touch of sweet sauce and some of their quite kick ass chilli, these mini pockets will definitely satisfy your sweet or salty dessert tooth. p.s: you can doggie bag them un-steamed for brekkie the next day!
