kome-kaze!

tucked quietly away behind the hill of bukit chermin, the japanese gem, otherwise known as kome, was recently discovered by pak law after what else but a round of golf! situated at what used to be the old gym, i've passed by kome before on my swim trips to the club, but honestly never really thought much of the outfit. maybe it was the not quite modern zen decor that made me not be my usually curious self, but pak law raved about it so much that we've been down to kome twice in two weeks already, to indulge in some oishii japanese fare.

priced at thirty five bucks a pop for the a la carte buffet, kome definitely served up one of the best value for money japanese buffets in Singapore. think fresh, fantastic quality cuts of salmon, yellowtail, swordfish, tuna and ebi sashimi, crisp battered tempuras, rich handrolls and smooth japanese ice cream, kome gets my nod not only for serving up awesome japanese classics but also for creativity and innovation in their sushi and tempura. my personal favorites (yes, i have estbalished favs just from two visits!) include the seaweed salad - for being refreshingly sweet, the hamachi sashimi - for the fresh crunch followed by the melt in the mouth texture, the salmon sushi - seared on the top, but still raw in the middle over just the right amount of vinegared rice roll, the tea pot soup - just to cleanse the palate between dishes, the onion tempuras - think japanese version of tony roma's onion loaf!, and the ultra smooth black sesame ice cream to round up the meal. (more piccies here!)

i do have to confess that i was about to blog about another hidden japanese joint, momoya, which served up quite a decent buffet as well. still worth the mention, and visit if you are in the simei tanah merah area, but after visiting kome, i would say most definitely...head to kome and go kome-kaze crazy!
