chutney chutney!

do you ever suddenly get hit by this weird craving to have indian food? you know...the get your hands dirty with piping hot garlic naans and oh-so-creamy paneers and chicken tikka masala kind of craving? well...g and i every once in a while get hit by these odd wants and to be honest, this girl is glad that we found this kick-ass joint just a stone's throw from one six b, saving her the potential trauma of having to battle the crowds of little india!

don't get me wrong...little india rocks with its perpetual buzz, noise, lights and people....but when you are hungry and just want to get that naan in your tum, chutney mary will be my recommended place to go. branded to serve indian cuisine fast food style, i would say chutney mary is more or less like an indian coffee-club. the food is good, prices are reasonable and you don't have to wait too long for the grub to get to your table.

the definite must-tries include the palek paneer or the paneer as is (for those who aren't crazy about cottage cheese), the chicken tikka masala and this brinjal mash dip thingy. all fantastically done, extremely authentic with rich flavors and fragrant spices but less the lemak or creaminess that most other places i find indulge excessively in. of course, all these dishes must aboslutely be eaten with their in house naans (garlic gets my vote!) which are baked on the spot, making each piece hot and fluffy, complimenting every single dip and curry perfectly. so if you ever have that indian food craving, i would recommend heading to chutney mary for some good indian grub.

ps: they deliver too!

the place for hot gossip!

it has been a good 4 years (or more come to think of it!) since i last step foot into chat masala for dinner. little has changed...the decos the same, the place still abuzz with a quiet hum with all tables (both inside and out) full and yes...most importantly, the food is stil awesome.

indian food to me is simple...just bring on the hot garlic naans and curries, no need for the briyanis and tandooris. thankfully g's more or less on the same page on this one as me (*grin*) so dinner was simple... one order of palek paneer (cottage cheese in screamed pinach sauce), one order of mutton curry and one order of spicy butter chicken. we first started out with one garlic naan each and when the curries came, i thought hey...no problem! we should be able to finish it.

4 naans later....we did finish it...pretty much to the last drop!

the paneer was good, not overly rich with just the right mix of cream, spinach and cottage cheese. it was a toss up between the paneer and the mutton curry for me, if i was to name favourites... just because the mutton was extremely tender (no muttony smells) and curry, truly flavourful. solution to the favourite isssues? combination dip of the naan in both! laced with the fresh garlic coating the hot crispy naan breads, power! nt to discredit the butter chicken...if you like the rich cream based curry...you will without a doubt fall in love with chat masala's version. everything is just so good that no matter how stuffed you are, you will reach out and ask for more of those naans, just to get that bit more curry off the bowl!
