hawker rocker 116 - outram park ya hua rou gu cha

it's dawned on me that mojito's hawker rocker series has kinda been put on hold for a while...honestly, it isn't really by choice, rather more of a reflection of my current routine - with a little bit more time at home (yes, i have been messing in the kitchen and promise a post to update on my adventures in a bit!) and when time and energy permits, the odd indulgence at a nice place to eat. the past couple of weeks though, have seen a little bit of a change in the routine. i guess its somewhat related to the going ons in my life and i like to think that the somewhat return and sudden surge in the hawker rocker series will reflect a little on my current perspectives and also to remind all once again, that  its really the simpler things in life that are truly important. so here goes module one one six....

eating bah kut teh at outram park always brings back memories of when i was young. we used to come by quite often en route to keppel club but over time, with the discovery of other good bah kut teh places, we never really swung by as often...so it was kinda nice going back. the place has changed quite a bit with many more coffee shops opened all around the block. the outram park bah kut teh place still remains very much the cornerstone of the area, drawing a keen and quite diverse crowd from the surrounding area.

the food is still pretty good. the bah kut was tender and the soup was earthy. the pig trotter had a good lean and fatty meat proportion and was nicely braised. i'm not one for kidney but g singled handedly polished off the bowl so i guess there's enough testament of the al dente slivers in the classic broth. i give outram park bonus points for serving up mee sua and some kickass salted veggies and will definitely recommend you enjoying a bowl of classic bah kut teh if you are in the keppel region!

have you gone to rangoon road recently? i feel that the taste has changed together with the decor and customer service. it just doesn't feel the same anymore. in fact, i may even rank ya hua over them now.
