thought i'd title this post in the native language just to express my ongoing love affair with the japanese cuisine. just to set the record straight, the title means 'my favorite japanese restaurant' and thinking back, I actually would have written this post a lot earlier, sharing with all about the jap joint waraku but something kinda held me back... don't get me wrong, waraku is a great place to go to for your regular dose of japanese goodness...but i guess somehow, someone was trying to telling me that i have yet to be sufficiently wow-ed by any one outfit to actually crown it my favorite. all that changed effectively last week when i had probably the best authentic japanese meals at outstanding value at the quaint wahiro restaurant at the corner of marine parade and still.
with choices from the full omakase, to ala carte orders of sushi, sashimi, yakimono, nabemono and itamemono, wahiro was like japan served on a plate! it is no wonder that the place was packed with japanese families and businessmen alike, and g and i were really lucky to be able to score a seat in the already fully booked restaurant.
g was sold the moment he spotted the hotaru ika so we happily indulged in the sweet salty morsels while pondering over what to have for dinner. we ended up with a full table of dishes, all of which were timely replaced as we went through the yuuge unagi yanagawa and kuishiyaki courses. the food was really fresh, of fantastic quality and prepared with the level of detail and care the japanese are famous for. be it raw, cooked, fried, stewed or grilled, wahiro wowed me with every single course that evening. it was simple and good...strong yet subtle.
wahiro is officially this girl's favorite japanese restaurant.
next time...omakase!
