red star is without a doubt, one of g and my favorite haunts for yum cha. the food is not only consistently good and prices reasonable, but the whole traditional red and pink deco and trolleys milling around, truly brings one back a few years to how, in my book, yum cha should be.
if we had our choice, we would definitely like to be seated a little bit closer to the kitchen...but it turned out good as it made the brunch somewhat more fun with both of us craning our heads to see whether any trolleys were heading our way...and then guessing what they had on their trolleys! this game resulted in 2 very stuffed but highly satisfied individuals!
highlights of the meal would definitely go to the paper wrapped chicken we started the meal with, the classic feng zhao and the char siew soh. the paper wrapped chicken was a first for us at red star...never knew it to be part of yum cha or red star for that matter, but it was good. fragrant and tender....pretty close to the one served up at union farm, less the oily fingers because the staff at red star de-paper it for us! the feng zhao and char siew soh are my all time must haves at red star. the feng zhao is stewed till soft in a yummy mix of five spice powder and black bean. the char siew soh is to die for. light sweet flaky pastry encasing a full pouchful of warm char siew. a fantastic blend of sweet and savoury...making the dish one suitable for both the main or for dessert! highly recommended....red deco, chinesey and all!

Hi Lydia,
Nice dim sum photos. It is pretty rare these days to find a dim sum restaurant where they still push around the carts!
Cheers
Marc
