the three-in-one post

time really flies and its has been over a month since auntie ta jet-setted off to the usa (she has since returned home!)...leaving the regulars of one six b in a bit of a dessert desert! that partially explains why this post is a three-in-one post, bringing everyone up to speed with the gastronomic adventures at one six b....minus desserts of course!

with a smaller group of people around the table each weekend, pak law decided to keep things nice and simple. the first dinner was a hybrid of beef stew and fusilli....i know the piccies don't exactly bring out the goodness of the meal we enjoyed, but it was good. i was actually looking forward to just crusty bread to go with the stew...but the al dente fusilli added a nice crunch to the dish, augmenting the sweetness of the veggies in the stew and tender juicy chunks of beef.

theme for weekend number two was seafood and once again, ingenious pak law managed to cook up quite a unique one dish meal. it was one of his few attempts at fusion and this girl would like to commend him on the pretty good job done! the concoction was a homemade mix of brown and glutinous rice with bits of chinese sausage topped with stir fried garlic prawns and calamari and slices of cod fillet. it was a fantastic combination of chinese and somewhat italian flavours of sweet and salty...and dinner was made complete (almost actually..minus dessert) with mom's homemade salad drizzled with freshly made sesame dressing.

the third (and final) dinner was on the night of auntie ta's return. pak law barbequed fantastic cuts of beef and made rosti from scratch! the meat was as always, cooked till pink and slightly dripping in its own yummy juices. the rosti was pretty good for a first attempt, crispy on the outside and not too starchy...the regulars at one six b seemed to enjoy it and already made requests that pak law try his hand at making it again soon! it has also been a while since pak law served up some grilled veggies and i was really quite glad he did. the veggies not only were yummy as is, they were fantastic with the meat.

it has been three pretty good meals...with store bought desserts (neuhaus chocolates and renaldo's apple strudel!) no less but this girl, and the regulars of one six b i'm sure, definitely still prefer auntie ta's homemade desserts to satisfy those after dinner sugar cravings!
