after many, many trips to central, this girl finally managed to get herself seated at the bar counter of marutama ramen last monday. with a 20 minute queue each time outside the little restaurant and the many reviews of the very authentic ramen, i was looking forward to enjoying a nice big bowl of hot ramen.

the menu was less extensive then i expected but i guess with all great places, that is usually the case, with chefs just concentrating on what is good. i decided on the chicken based ramen (i'm sorry i don't remember the name of the dish!) the one with just a slice of cha siew, spring onions and seaweed. actually all their ramen's chicken based, different from the other shio, miso and pork bone broths and i guess i was slightly disappointed. i love the pork bone version so marutama's chicken broth one didn't quite cut it for me. don't get me wrong, the stock was good, but it was somehow missing the somewhat milky, earthy flavour.

the next time (yes there will be a next time! *grin*) i head to marutama
, i'll definitely try the aka ramen. stewed from seven different types of nuts, the waiter said it was somewhat like a satay sauce, i should have gone with my gut and have the aka ramen instead. but overall it was still a good experience, with prompt service by very friendly japanese staff....so this girl says do go to marutama just for that quick touch base with a slightly different style of ramen!
