futti di mare & caffe latte

it was seafood on the menu again at one six b the weekend g and i got back from bali (post still akan datang!). the only difference this time around was that it was prepared by ben as pak law was still nursing a sore knee. it was still good as ben makes a mean pasta and this time around his futti di mare attempt was very good. despite averagely fresh ingredients, he still managed to put together a pretty kick-ass version of this tomato based seafood pasta, adding bits of yummy italian sausage to spice up the dish.

pak law had to still have a stake in the meal despite complaining about his sore knee, and whipped up an updated version of his steamed fish following the many good things the regulars at one six b had to say at the last seafood dinner. he experimented with two types of fish, the red snapper and the seabass and instead of just garnishing the dish, decided to really dress the fish in a salsa-like topping. the end result was fantastic. i thought the snapper was already very good cooked this way, with the freshness of the fish enhanced with the garlic, sweet tomatoes and onions. but the seabass was even better! almost melt in your mouth, with even richer and sweeter flavours. think pak law has managed to move a notch in his preparation of fish, which has always been difficult in my book, so kudos to pak law!

as always, the meal wasn't complete without auntie ta's awesome dessert. never once disappointing, auntie ta served up a coffee cake like no other i have tried. truly befitting of its name, the caffe latte was outstanding! most coffee cakes hardly taste of coffee and are usually either to sweet or too rich, thanks to the chocolate....but this cake had the aromas and richness of coffee. topped with lightly whipped cream, this is how caffe latte would be if it were ever meant to be eaten!
