brunch. the meal defined as the combination of breakfast and lunch...and is most cases, quite a heavy meal to take the place of both breakfast and lunch. i love brunch, as it gives one the opportunity to truly indulge without having to worry too much about over eating (since you do have two meals worth of calories at your disposal!), and it does in its own magical way, give the weekend that special holiday feel to it. its been a while since i actually had brunch, especially with g now down under in jdk, so it was kind of a nice treat that the entire family headed over to relish for a quick brunch getaway.
relish has always been synonymous with good burgers so i was really curious to see if their weekend brunch menu would be equally good. it had a good range of brunch like dishes, with signature relish spins on them like their buttermilk pancake stacks which are made out of jackfruit, feta and maple syrup and their breakfast burger, consisting of homemade apple and pork sausage patty, cheese and omelette. they of course do still have some of their signature burgers as part of their brunch menu...and they will whip up other burgers not on the menu if the kitchen is stocked and not overly busy. it turns out though that if you are like me and don't equate brunch to burgers, relish does serve up some mean burger alternatives. the crispy cod cakes for one, were beautiful. think thai inspired fish cakes made with luxurious fresh cod paste and infused with classic fragrant thai spices. their spinach salad was a bowl full of fresh greens, garnished with crisp parmesan sheets, a poached egg and light soy ginger dressing. two fab choices for those who already decided to have dessert!
me being the traditionalist, indulged in a brunch classic - the eggs wild benedict. served with crispy cubes of potatoes, the eggs benedict were perfectly poached and topped with just the right amount of hollandaise sauce. the generous rocket definitely helped cut the richness of the dish and while this wasn't the best eggs benedict that i've had, it came pretty close. pak law wasn't too impressed with the breakfast burger although i felt that it was a pretty concept that relish pulled together trying to marry the signature burger style for breakfast. the service was warm and friendly and the kitchen made not one but two exceptions for us with the whipping up their classic ramlee for b and a serving of spaghetti cabonara from nephew e.
one of things i love most about dining with the family is that we always have room for dessert. we were quite stuffed but of course could not resist something sweet to round off the meal so between the seven of us, we shared two desserts. chef wilin's deconstructed strawberry cheesecake always gets my vote...just imagine the various ingredients needed to make the strawberry cheesecake, layered one on top of the other....extremely good and perfect to end any meal with to be honest! we've actually seen the horlicks & milo marble slab at b-cube previously but didn't get to try it so we took the opportunity to have go. turned out pretty good...more horlicky then miloey but the cake was moist and yummy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
definitely a place to add to the list of brunch places in singapore!

Hey Lydia!
Was the photo of the onion rings the one you submitted for Hansel's class? Looks great. Nice light, that projector didn't do it justice.
You've got a really good blog. Will be coming back often.
