is koi the new face of bubble tea?

koi

after hearing stories of special detours to the koi cafe and countless tweets from friends on how good the bubble tea is, this girl finally bused down to marine parade, niece and nephew in tow, for our sunday bus and bubble tea adventure!

Picnik collagethis girl does admit that she does have a bit of a soft spot for  bubble tea. for me, i think its the chewy pearls that give me the satisfaction…i mean, i’m the type that love chunks in my ice cream so pearls in my tea are well, pretty much a given! having said that though, i have had some lack lustre sugar water concoctions with either over or undercooked pearls so i was curious after not having a good machine shaken tea to have a go at koi’s drinks.

after a ten minute queue and half a dozen questions from the counter staff, i decided to stick with the familiar passionfruit green tea with pearl, less sugar, no up size. armed with my queue number of four zero five, the kids and i plonked ourselves down on the benches out front and watched as the koi factory churned out cup after cup of bubble tea and the order queue stay steadily long! right on cue, kor kor stood up and collected our order while mei mei decided on the color straws we were to have. then puncturing the plastic cup top, i drew first sip of the tea and crunched on my first pearl. my take? not bad…the tea was not too sweet with enough passion fruit flavor without tasting artificial. the pearls were smaller then the usual which was kinda nice, so it wasn’t too difficult sucking them up and enjoying the tea at the same time. at two-fifty or so a cup though, it is slightly more expensive but i guess one is paying a bit more for the better quality and ability to customize your drink so to speak.

apparently the milk tea with grass jelly is the one to have, so watch this space or my tweets for an update!

i didn't find their tea fantastic. so don't understand why there's always a queue. my favourite bubble tea is still from the corner stall at Maxwell Market. the Q-ness of the pearls is perfect! can't go too early in the morning though, as the uncle boils the pearls till perfection only ard noon time =)(and not many people know about it, so there's usually no queue!)
