hot off & out of the pan!

situated surrounding the main fountain feature of raffles city's basement, i am pretty sure many have passed by out of the pan and have probably either consciously or subconsciously peered up or down (depending on where you were headed!) from the escalators at the people eating. i've dined at out of the pan before...but that was a good two years or so back and instead of having the crepes which is the specialty of the place, i had waffles with ice cream instead. i remember i wasn't too impressed with the waffles so i kinda wasn't expecting too much from the crepe lunch we had last weekend.

i was quite pleasantly surprised after going through the menu to find out that out of the pan actually had quite a nice repertoire of both sweet and savory crepes. from the classic ham and cheese to the more exotic peking duck and chicken tikka masala variants, kudos i think are a must to the creators of the joint for being creative! served fresh and piping hot out of the pan (hence the name!), i do have to say that the crepes were pretty delish. i shared the chicken tikka masala with onion on whole wheat crepe with my sis and let's just say it was yummy enough for me to secretly regret sharing! the creation was such that it didn't quite taste like your normal crepe, instead  more like a cross between a crepe and a murtabak...not too dry, not too oily, encasing nicely spiced chicken tikka masala. the peking duck crepe is the other favorite and recommended thing to try in the menu. being a huge peking duck fan (and i mean like can polish off 4 peking duck pancakes kind of huge!) , my niece e quietly enjoyed her crepe and while i didn't personally have a taste, she quietly enjoying the dish is testament enough of the yumminess of the creation! the last two crepes that we did order include the thai red beef curry and smoked ham and cheese. i didn't manage to get a pic of the ham and cheese crepe as my nephew e began working on it the moment it arrived, but it did look pretty good, filled with melted cheese (yum!) and mushrooms as well. b had the thai red beef curry on a sundried tomato crepe which he said was pretty good too. it's nice to have different crepe flavors to choose from and the fact that they make the crepe only upon ordering, guarantees one a fresh and hot meal.

good crepes are really hard to come by to be honest and while out of the pan doesn't serve what i would define as textbook type crepes, their creations are definitely still worth the calories.
