where it is okay to slurp...really!

have you have had one of those days where you just crave the thick creamy and hearty pork bone stock with al dente ramen noodles? the light crunch of the instant noodle lookalike, the sweet yet salty, and a tad bit lemak soup base with the drizzles and whiffs of freshly ground sesame? well...that was me, two days ago! so you can imagine my delight when j said she too was in the mood for some ramen! i immediately put smoo into gear, stepped on the pedal and cruised onto the ecp (the left lane's the new fastest lane by the way!) getting us all nice and seated in the newly established yoshimaru ramen bar at the playground in fifteen minutes flat!

the bar was outfitted to try to replicate a typical hakata ramen joint in japan, complete with the bar and many chefs behind the counter! pouring over the menu, i was immediately sold with the toasted garlic ramen (i mean who wouldn't ya? its toasted garlic!) and j went all out with the moridakusan ramen (all-in). i enjoyed my garlic version although a bit more garlic flavour would have been better but the noodles were fresh and cooked al dente and the soup was the classic cloudy pork bone base that i was craving. not too salty albeit a bit oily, the simple pork slices were quite well marbled and the semi-poached eggs pretty much completed the meal. j's moridakusan looked pretty good too...with the same pork slices, and poached eggs, but accompanied by a generous variety of japanese garnishing - think seaweed, plum paste, preserved ginger, radish....this girl already made the mental note that i'm having that the next time i'm at yoshimaru!

ps: they've got another branch opened at holland v, nice and close to my office so regardless of where i am, east or west, i will definitely be able to get my ramen fix!

i insist Marutama Ramen at Liang Court is better! the noodles are more chewy and there's something magic about their eggs! (though ethan seems to enjoy the noodles here more...;))

well...i do agree the noodles might be a bit better at marutama but they don't do pork bone soup base so i have to admit i'm biased *blush*
