of mojitos and other madness: a little oomph!

the reservation was for a quarter to twelve and we were running late. thankfully we got into oomphatico's just before it got busy...stepping in, all sense of time somewhat disappeared with the cheery yet mystical deco of the place immediately made one feel like alice tumbling down the rabbit hole into cafe wonderland!

while we were quite taken by the pretty deco, the group, to be honest, wasn't too wowed by the listings in the menu...it was quite a bit to take in as the menu was a little confused with the usual cafe fare combined with a few thai dishes. in any case, we decided to keep things simple and eventually settled for one salad, two sandwiches, a pizza, one thai dish and chips for appetiser.

service was quite prompt and the table was quickly filled with wooden plates holding the orders. after going through the first bites and exchanges of dishes, it was unanimous that oomphatico's did have a little oomph, contrary to the initial assessment made going through the menu. the hits included the fried vermicelli salad, thai in new york sandwich, pizza and thai green curry noodles. this girl had the down to earth sandwich, which was only so-so...a vege-based sandwich, it was lacking a tangier sauce to really bring out the freshness of the vegetables used. slight disappointment, but it was still all good...mom enjoyed the salad...think a fish sauce dressing and crispy vermicelli over a bed of fresh greens... pak law, i think, thoroughly enjoyed the green curry (more so than he would admit!) as he only had one thing to say which was 'now i don't need to go all the way to thailand for green curry noodles'! the thai in new york sandwich was a clever combination of the tradition chicken sandwich taken a few notches up with a double serving of sunny side ups and the use of thai seasoned chicken...and finally the thin crust pizza, laden with mozeralla, must have definitely hit a spot with my bro in law.

the verdict leaving oomphatico's? not bad...great place to bring the kids, just be prepared that not all dishes will have a guaranteed oomph!
